It's a wonderful tool to make it possible for
students to take electives they really enjoy and
that they normally wouldn't have access to. I
enjoyed the veterinary science curriculum and our
video conference with marine science in our
marine science class It was nice to work with
teachers from other schools, and to see our
students interact with other students. Seeing
the different school DL set ups. Working with
some great teachers. I think it is probably the
best thing that ever happened to our districts
students. I had a very nice rapport with the
instructor. We had a virtual field trip to the
Florida Keys through DL. I liked the interaction
between the students at the different sites. It
is a great way to experience different teachers
and it is great for students to meet other
students with different opinions.

Not enough visits from the teachers, sometimes
not a good mix with certain schools. Background
chatter and paper shuffling from one of the
schools. It seemed that some students were put
in the class just because they needed a
credit. Some instructors were less organized
than others and didnt inform me about class
plans. That made my job more difficult. The down
time caused by inexperienced substitute aides or
substitute teachers who could not run the
system. Students who do not come to class and
want me to record the class everyday. We also had
issues with cell phones causing interference. I
would like to see teachers have more involvement
in discipline. The students dont seem to obey
some of the aides.

I always spoke with someone right away. The
problem was always fixed immediately. Absolutely.
Everyone is always helpful. Always there to
assist and very helpful.

The BOCES support team has been very helpful
whenever a problem arises. They were all very
helpful. Yes, they were all helpful solving the
technical difficulties. The assistance I
received was great. One drawback for our room is
that the phone is a bit far from the control
panel so it makes it somewhat difficult to talk
and troubleshoot.

I think that some rules of courtesy should be
set by all the schools involved. Just advise the
students of polite behavior. Having the teacher
visit at least two times a year would be
helpful. The schedule differences. This year was
much better than in the past. I know it is very
hard to have all schools on the same time
schedule. There should be better communication
between the teacher and the remote site aides. I
would like more school closing and technical
problem communication. I would like to see more
substitute aides trained to use the
systems.

If teachers need to do copies for students for
class time the next day they should get the
material to aide two days ahead of assignment
time. We are not always able to have copies
made on time. Materials should be prepared well
in advance by host site teachers for
distribution. I feel that some students should
have been asked before being placed in the class.
Some students do not feel comfortable in this
type of class and should not be enrolled. The
BOCES team is always very helpful and I have been
doing DL for 7 or 8 years and anytime that I need
help they are always ready and willing. Cell
phones and other electronic devices in the DL
have been a big problem this year. Maybe
restrictions on these items could be put into the
DL contract . I feel the Distance Learning
method was a great experience for all of the
students. It was a great year.
