What Does a Switch Do?

• Backbone of every network
• Allows computers to communicate to each other
• Organizes computer resources into Local Area
  Networks (LANS)

Why We Need It

• The Cisco and Microsoft certification courses
• Course fill rate of 100
• Serve over 150 students per semester
• Current switches dont support latest
  technologies
• Remote management
• Virtual LANs (VLANs)
• Layer 3 Switching
• routes LAN traffic to remote networks

• MSJC received 511,494 for CTE Programs
• Federal funding that must be spent
• Distributed among 17 programs
