Title: Flying Wire Status

Flying Wire Status
  • Main Injector
  • Both Horizontal and Vertical Operational
  • New design VRFT installed at MI-10 and appears to
be fully functional. BUT have only 1 Spare!
  • Recycler No Change
  • Horizontal Operational
  • Vertical has a binding feed-through. Problem is
inside. Will replace it during summer shutdown.
  • TEV
  • Both E-11 and E-17 Horizontal sheared couplers
and the magnetic feed through is binding. We
replaced both couplers. I tuned the motion
control system to make them fly stably. Both are
returning profiles. Both should be repaired
during the shutdown by rebuilding the
    feed-throughs.
  • E-11 Vertical wire is also operating normally.

I tuned the motion control system to make them
fly stably at 5 m/s. Both are returning
profiles. Both should be repaired during the
shutdown by rebuilding the magnetic feed-through.
Vertical is still operating normally at 6 m/s.

IPM Status
  • Main Injector
  • Electrostatic Horizontal has very little gain.
Difficult to see P-Bar signals on transfers.
  • Electrostatic Vertical and Mark-II Operational
  • Will work with Denton and Dave to understand
    current issues.
  • Phil has offered up a first draft of a new design
document. We plan to start discussions on it
    this week!
  • Booster IPM will be discussed after the MI Plan
to try to use as many of the same components as
    possible in both new designs.

  • Horizontal QIE crate was removed from the tunnel
to troubleshoot a high error rate problem. We
found a bad QIE board and replaced it.
  • Ran the system for weeks. Used it to verify
cables by injecting signals, and testing QIE
    board timing.
  • Found and repaired some cable problems.
  • Buffer Board firmware code was modified to report
    additional errors more accurately.
  • Crate reinstalled in tunnel during last access.
  • Some new errors are being reported that we are
    investigating. Need a short access.
  • Added some scripts in the sequencer to turn off
the IPM jacking mode for proton only stores to
    protect the MCP.
  • That said, the IPMs are still taking data for
every injection, up the ramp, during jacking, and
during HEP. Good data is being logged!
