Requirements
  • Keep an ongoing folder for 2 years to keep
    records of volunteer, leadership and character
    activities
  • Folder must be kept up to date and turned in for
    trimester audits
  • 12 hours per year volunteer service activities
  • Dues 20 NHS and 5 GLHS Activity Fee
  • Keep minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above

  • Make sure to fill completely
  • Get the signature of the person you worked for
  • If they want to attach a letter make sure they
    sign the green paper.
  • This sheet is for activities that are not on the
    NHS sign up sheet.

  • This sheet will be used for both years.
  • You must fill out your hours this is the record
    keeping system.
  • You are required to have 12 hours per year.
  • The sheet will be audited every trimester and
    hours will be recorded.
  • All hours must be on this sheet to count for
    audit.

Leadership Requirements
  • Must use this sheet for both Jr. and Sr. year.
  • Need to fill out an opportunity and the job that
    you performed.
  • This must be completed by the end of the year for
    each year.
  • This is one of the pillars of NHS

Scholarship Requirements
  • Students must maintain a cumulative GPA for both
    years Jr. and Sr.
  • GPAs will be checked each trimester
  • If grade point falls below a 3.5 you will be
    placed on probation and have one trimester to
    pull grades up if not you may reapply for NHS
    when your GPA raises.
  • If you do not pull grades up you can petition the
    faculty advisory board for an extension.

Character Requirements
  • This sheet will be used for both Jr. and Sr.
    year.
  • Must fill out 5 examples of character for each
    year.
  • Character examples are a requirement of NHS
    membership and one pillar of the society.

Missed Meeting sheet(Green Sheet)

Missed Meeting sheet
  • You are given a list of mandatory meeting at the
    beginning of the year. Please plan you schedule
    around these.
  • IF you miss a meeting you must fill out this
    sheet with the appropriate blanks.
  • There will be consequences to missing meetings
    possible sanction of having to have more
    volunteer hours.

NHS General Information
  • FOUR (4) HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE TO BE
    COMPLETED EACH TRIMESTER
  • Service activities must benefit members in the
    Grand Ledge Community or the surrounding area.
  • 3 service hours must be served within Grand Ledge
    community project.
  • When signing up for a NHS sponsored activities,
    please check the date and time of the activity to
    be sure you are available. Once a member makes a
    commitment to volunteer for an activity, he/she
    is expected to follow through unless there is an
    emergency that arises.
  • Long-term or weekly activities Big Buddies,
    Peer tutoring, Habitat, Mentoring, etc., counts
    for three out of the four volunteer service
    activities for the semester in which they are
    done.

  • MANDITORY MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ONCE A
    MONTH.
  • One missed unexcused missed meeting will require
    that a member participate in an extra Volunteer
    Service Activity. If a member misses more than
    one meeting, the Faculty Council reserves the
    right to review the members continued
    participation in NHS. All meetings are held in
    the Auditorium. Meeting dates are posted on daily
    announcements, the NHS Wiki Page, and the NHS
    bulletin boards outside the room 109. It is the
    members job to attend and remember meeting
    dates.

  • NHS BULLETIN BOARD IS LOCATED OUTSIDE ROOM 109.
  • A monthly calendar listing events dates/times and
    general club information is posted on the
    bulletin board. Please check the board often as
    it is the major form of communication. Back up
    posting will be placed on Ms. Boyds Wiki for
    NHS. You can access this web page by going

  • NHS HEADQUARTERS IS LOCATED IN ROOM 109.
  • The weekly officer and representative meetings
    will be held in this room. Information about the
    club is posted on a bulletin board in the social
    studies hall or on the cart outside of room 109.
    Volunteer folders will be located on the cart
    outside of room 109. Feel free to stop by.

Lastly..
  • NHS FOLDERS
  • Your NHS folder contains all the important
    information about member participation in NHS. It
    contains a listing of the service activities that
    he/she fulfills throughout the year. The NHS
    Folder remains in the members possession until
    graduation with the exception of the trimester
    folder audits. Each member is responsible for
    keeping his/her folder up to date in order to
    ensure continued membership in NHS. NHS folders
    will be checked each trimester for service
    credits and GPA. The folder is required to be
    filled out in its entirety at the end of the
    senior year to be eligible for awards.

IMPORTANT NOTE
  • FYI National Honor Society is the largest
    club/organization at GLHS with over 250 plus
    members. The Grand Ledge community looks to its
    members to provide it with mature, responsible
    and compassionate volunteer service. Please
    always represent NHS in the community and at
    school with the best you have to offer. ?
