COURSE CREDITS
  • You must have accumulated 28
    course credits to graduate.
  • Each class that you take and pass, you get one
    course credit.
  • If you do not pass a class, you do not get credit
    for the class

  • Each year has 2 semesters
  • Each semester you take
    4 classes
  • So, 2 semesters x 4 classes each 8
    total courses per year
  • There are 4 years of high school, so 8 classes
    per year x 4 years 32 credits

WEIGHTED COURSES
  • Honors and Advanced Placement Classes get extra
    points when calculating GPA.
  • The typical rule is that Honors courses get 0.5
    additional points and AP courses get 1 additional
    point.

N.C. Academic Scholars
  • Students must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of
    3.5 unweighted through the first semester of
    his/her senior year
  • Students must complete the course of study
    outlined in the curriculum guide
  • Students must complete two credits of higher
    level courses (honors or AP) during their junior
    and/or senior years
  • Students must complete the Graduation Project.

High School Registration
  • The high school registration process will be done
    this year utilizing a scheduling program found
    within PowerSchool. NHHS, Hoggard, and Ashley
    will also require a paper/pencil registration
    sheet.
  • Today, we will provide you with a Course
    Curriculum Guide school specific course
    information (LHS, JTH, NHHS AHS) based on your
    district school for next year.
  • We encourage you to start thinking about which
    electives you would like to take in 9th grade (as
    well as alternates) by using the Student
    Registration Worksheet provided today.
  • Completed registration worksheets, with a parent
    signature, are DUE to your homeroom teacher by
    February 25th.
  • On March 4th 5th, you will come into the
    library by Social Studies classes to enter your
    course selections into PowerSchool (if you have a
    parent signature on your registration worksheet).
  • A print out and/or final registration sheet will
    go home for parent review and signaturesigned
    sheets must be returned to your homeroom teacher
    by March 13th.
