What is dementia?
The term 'dementia' is an umbrella term used to
describe the symptoms that occur when the brain
is affected by specific diseases and conditions.
Symptoms of dementia include loss of memory,
confusion and problems with speech and
understanding. Alzheimers Disease is the most
common form of dementia, followed by vascular
dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, and
fronto-temporal dementia (including Picks
disease). All types are progressive and
terminal.

When should I worry about my memory?
  • Cant remember recent events
  • Cant follow TV programmes or conversations
  • Losing the thread of what you were saying
  • Forgetting names of friends/family everyday
    objects
  • Problems thinking things through and reasoning
  • Feeling anxious, angry and depressed having
    mood swings
  • Confusion even in a familiar environment
  • Comments on your memory loss?

Why seek a diagnosis?

    infections, depression, vitamin/thyroid
    deficiencies brain tumours
