What in the world is PITCH???
  • Pitch is defined as the relative highness or
    lowness of a sound. Pitch is determined by
    frequency. Since pitch is mostly used in music,
    Ill give you a musical example!

Rockin Musical Note
  • Ok, so have you ever been rockin out on Guitar
    Hero and wondered how a guitar really works?
    Well, you probably haven't, but Ill tell you
    anyway! The tighter the strings, the higher the
    frequency, and the higher the pitch.

Echowhat?
  • Echolocation!!!! This means pretty much just
    using echoes in order to find where you are. Bats
    survive off of echolocation. Because they cant
    see, they make high pitched noises that bounce
    off of something and back into their ears. The
    bat can tell the shape, size, and texture of an
    object through echolocation.

Swimmin with Dolphins!
  • Not only do bats use echolocation, but dolphins
    do, too. They can locate food and other objects
    using clicks from their mouth.

Resonance
  • Every object/substance has a natural frequency
    at which it is "willing" to vibrate. When an
    external agent applies a forced vibration that
    matches this natural frequency, the object begins
    to vibrate with ever increasing amplitude, or
    resonate.

Open pipe Resonance
  • Pipes can either be open on both ends or on
    only one end. The open ends act as free-end
    reflectors, producing antinodes, and the closed
    ends act as fixed-end reflectors, producing
    nodes. An example of this is a flute.
