Introduction
Description These activities are related to
learning food vocabulary and associated them in
their respective food groups through both
individually and in group activities which
facilitate the capacity of students to develop
communicative skills. Duration 90 minutes
Objectives Students will be able to Learn to
spell different words and associated them with
their respective images. Name and categorize
foods into the correct food groups. Select a
variety of food items from one food group and
determine whether they are nutritious choices.

Pre-activity
  • The teacher introduce food vocabulary
    essential to understand the basic meaning of the
    food pyramid. Ex. Words chicken, bread, orange,
    grapes, beans, fish, apple, peppers, potatoes,
    eggs, squash, broccoli, strawberries, corn,
    mushrooms, etc.
  • Individual activity.
  • Activity outcome
  • The students will have 4 worksheets of both
    matching and spelling activities that help them
    to internalize the new vocabulary and will guide
    him to the next activity.

  • Time of the activity 15 20 minutes.
  • Materials the worksheet will be distributed
    by the teacher, pencil.

While activity
  • The teacher introduce the five main food
    groups, those are Grain, fruits and vegetables,
    dairy, meat and proteins, and fats, oils and
    sweets.

  • The teacher opens a class discussion on eating
    habits.
  • Examples of questions
  • What are your favorite foods?
  • Which of these five types of foods should be
    eaten less and why?
  • This activity will help the teacher to keep
    students' attention and to know if they're
    understanding the new terms

  • Time of the activity 35 minutes.
  • Activity Synopsis
  • A fun game of Bingo provides students
    practice the names and food categories into the
    Five Food Groups.

  • Students will be able to

    food groups

  • Materials and Advance Preparation
  • Bingo card - 1 per student
  • Food Models that will be brought by the teacher
  • A bag or large basket
  • Place Food Models in bag or basket
  • Pencils

  • What To Do
  • Distribute one Bingo Card per student.
  • Randomly select a Food Model from the bag or
    basket.
  • Ask students to identify the food.
  • Have participants write the name of the food in
    one of the squares for that food group on their
    cards. For example, if an apple is shown,
    students write apple' in one of the Fruits Group
    squares. Inventive spelling is acceptable.Note
    The food group icon on the back of the food model
    indicates to which food group it belongs. 
  • The first player to fill five squares
    horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins.
  • As a check, have the winner read off the name in
    the winning food/food group squares.

Post-activity
  • Group activity no more than 3 students per
    group.
  • Time of the activity 35 minutes.
  • Activity Guess who
  • In relation to the vocabulary learn in this
    class each student group could select the most
    unusual fruit, vegetable, meat or some food of
    the five main groups from their list of
    vocabulary and perform a Guess what I am? Style
    presentation with question and participation from
    the class.

  • After they have thought their food and their
    main characteristics to describe, one
    representative of each group will have to present
    in front of the class and all the students will
    play the game.

CONCLUSION
  • At the end of class students will be able to
    recognize different types of food and place them
    in their respective food group.
  • Through these activities the students were
    able to put into practice their knowledge and to
    internalize the information in a positive way.
