1. A volcano happens when _________________ and
_________________ build up under the Earth's
surface. This causes an explosion and
__________, __________, and __________ are
expelled into the air. From http//green.nation

cano-profile.html?sourceG2308
  • When thick magma and large amounts of gas build
up under the surface, volcano eruptions can
happen. They can be explosive, expelling lava,
rocks and ash into the air. Less gas and more
thick magma usually mean a less dramatic
eruption, often causing streams of lava to ooze
    from the vent.

2. What is the name of the largest volcano on
Earth? _________________________________________I

How many times has it erupted? ______________Fro

  • Mauna Loais Earth's Largest Volcano
  • Rising gradually to more than 4 km above sea
level, Mauna Loa is the largest volcano on our
planet. The enormous volcano covers half of the
state of Hawaii and by itself amounts to about 85
percent of all the other Hawaiian Islands
    combined.
  • Mauna Loa is among Earth's most active volcanoes,
    having erupted 39 times.

3. How many active volcanoes are there in the
world? 50 200 More than 1,500 More than
2,000.From http//green.nationalgeographic.com/

  • About 1,900 volcanoes on Earth are considered
active, meaning they show some level of activity
and are likely to explode again. Many other
volcanoes are dormant, showing no current signs
of exploding but likely to become active at some
point in the future. Others are considered
    extinct.

4. Earth is not the only volcanic planet. In
fact, the planet in our solar system with the
most volcanoes is __________.From
http//volcano.und.nodak.edu/vwdocs/planet_volcano
/venus/intro.html
  • Venus has more volcanoes than any other planet in
the solar system. Over 1600 major volcanoes or
volcanic features are known and there are many,
many more smaller volcanoes. (No one has yet
counted them all, but the total number may be
over 100,000 or even over 1,000,000).

frequent_questions/grp4/question95.html
  • Volcanoes affect people in many ways, some are
good, some are not. Some of the bad ways are that
houses, buildings, roads, and fields can get
covered with ash. If the ash fall is really heavy
it can make it impossible to breathe.
  • Lava flows are almost always too slow to run over
people, but they can certainly run over houses,
    roads, and any other structures.
  • Some of the good ways that volcanoes affect
people include producing spectacular scenery, and
producing very rich soils for farming.
