Bens Life

• Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706,
  on Milk Street in Boston, Massachusetts. Franklin
  was born into quite a large family which included
  17 children. Bens father Josiah was a soap maker
  and his second wife and Bens mother was Abiah
  Folger.
• Ben went to school until he was 10 and stopped
  going after that so he could work for his father.
  
• After working for his father for two years he
  went on to work for his brother at a news paper
  shop which was called the New England Courant.
• When 15, Ben started writing in the paper under a
  different name. He was writing under the alias of
  Silence Dogood.

• Silence Dogood was supposedly a middle aged widow
  who was just writing letters to the paper. These
  letters were a really big hit all over the town.
• When James (Bens Brother) found out it was
  actually Ben writing the letters, Ben ran away to
  Philly to start a new life.
• When in Philly he talked to Sir William Keith who
  was the governor, he talked Ben into going to
  London for educational purposes.
• When he was in London he found the skills needed
  to run his own newspaper so he moved back to
  Philadelphia in 1727.
• This is when Franklin started his journey as an
  inventor and author.

• In 1736 Ben's young son Francis passes away and
  also Ben founds the Union Fire Company in
  Philadelphia.
• In June 1752 he performs his famous kite
  experiment.
• On July of 1776 he signs the Declaration of
  Independence.
• In 1787 he was Elected president of the
  Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition
  of Slavery and served as delegate to the
  Constitutional Convention.
• At age 84, Benjamin Franklin dies in Philadelphia
  on April 17 1790.

Publishings

• Ben wrote the Poor Richards Almanac and Poor
  Richards Proverbs. He also had an alias while
  writing these too, the name he wrote under was
  Richard Sanders.
• Another book he had published was The Way to
  Wealth in 1758.
• Franklin also helped draft the Declaration of
  Independence in 1776.

Facts

• Ben Franklin was one of the founding fathers for
  the United States.
• He helped us modernize the states as we know them
  today, for example, if he had not invented
  electricity then we could still be reading around
  a candle.
• Also many people think that he was once a
  president and he was NOT!
