Research and Education at Energy Engineering
focuses on increasingly important issues for
energy technologies /systems and their
environmental impacts. Most of the projects
include cooperation with an industrial partner by
co-funding or joint RD. We have coordinated and
participated in several European Unions joint
projects as well as national projects. The
research activities are carried out by computer
simulations, laboratory and on-site experiments
in cooperation with industry. In particular,
research at Energy Engineering encompasses
following subjects
- Advanced gas turbine cycles including
cogeneration plants for biomass fuels - Environmentally benign small and medium scale
heating and/or cogeneration systems using
biomass - Energy efficient processes and process
integration for heavy industries and municipal
applications - Sustainable energy systems including renewable
energy utilization, greenhouse gases mitigation
technologies - Fundamental studies on thermal sciences and
computational energy science and technologies,
including two-phase flow reactors in energy
applications, CFD applied to fluid dynamics, heat
transfer and combustion, and thermodynamic
properties of working fluids. - We provide various courses for students covering
both fundamental energy science and applied
technologies. Cooperation with the industry in
the education is mainly through the final
projects of the M.Sc and B.Sc. We also
participate in public arrangements related to
energy and environment issues and contribute
expert views on technical issues related to
energy planning for towns and communities in
Northern Sweden.
