Gift Giving

• We give gifts to friends and loved-ones on
  special occasions
• Do we know what is the most important of all
  gifts the gift of God (Jn. 410)?
• Do we give the most important of all gifts the
  gift of salvation (Rom. 623)?

The Gift of God

• For God so loved the world, that he gave his
  only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on
  him should not perish, but have eternal
  life (John 316)
• And the witness is this, that God gave unto us
  eternal life, and this life is in his Son
  (1 John 511)

Taking What God Gives

• God gave Canaan to the Israelites, but they had
  to take it (Josh. 62-5 2143)
• God gave salvation in Jesus, but the people have
  to take it (Jn. 112 Mt. 1128-30)
• A free gift is still a gift even when the one
  receiving it must do something in order to take
  possession of it (Acts 237 96 1630)

Receiving the Gift of Salvation

• We must hear the gospel (Eph. 113)
• We must believe in Jesus (Acts 1631)
• We must confess Jesus name (Rom. 109-10)
• We must repent of our sins (Acts 238 319)
• We must be baptized (Mk. 1616)
• We must live faithfully (1 Cor. 152)

The Gift of God

• For as touching those who were once enlightened
  and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made
  partakers of the Holy Spirit, and tasted the good
  word of God, and the powers of the age to come,
  and then fell away, it is impossible to renew
  them again unto repentance seeing they crucify
  to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him
  to an open shame (Hebrews 64)
