• 1974-1977, 38th President
• Granted Nixon a full pardon
• Tried to curb inflation
• Tried to maintain American prestige after the
  collapse of Cambodia and South Vietnam

Jimmy Carter

• 1977-1981
• Worked to fight inflation and unemployment
• Expanded the national park system to include part
  of Alaska
• Created a national energy policy by controlling
  petroleum prices
• American hostages were taken in Iran for 18
  months. The day that Carter left office, the
  hostages were released.

Ronald Reagan

• 1981-1989
• Got into politics after being an actor in films
• Worked to increase economic growth, slow down
  inflation, increase employment and make national
  defense stronger
• He tried to improve relations with Gorbachev, the
  SU leader
• Negotiated a treaty to eliminate nuclear missiles

• 1989-1993
• Sent troops to Panama to capture Manuel
  Noriega-was taken to the US for trial as a drug
  trafficker
• Desert Storm- during the Gulf War- Iraq invaded
  Kuwait, US backed up Kuwait
• US economy was failing, increase violence in
  cities, and deficit spending

• 1993-2001
• Had the lowest unemployment, inflation, highest
  home ownership, dropping crime rates, reduced
  welfare
• In 2000, he asked the nation to end
  discrimination
• In 1998, there was a scandal with an intern which
  caused him to get impeached.
• Bombed Iraq when Hussein stop the United Nations
  inspections for nuclear and chemical weapons.

• No Child Left Behind- Accountability
• Modernized Medicare for a prescription benefits
• Created the Dept of Homeland Defense
• War on Terror- remove terrorists from Afghanistan
  and Iraq
• Hurricane Katrina
