Population decreased, schools closed, taxes and
prices soared, leaving Romans poor and the empire
slowly collapsed.

A New Eastern Empirein Constantinople

• Even though the Roman Empire in the West was
  falling, the Byzantine Empire in the East was
  thriving.
• Diocletian left the empire to Constantine, who
  moved the capital and renamed it Constantinople.
• Justinian became Emperor after Constantine.
  Justinian had a wife named Theodora.
• Retake the old Roman Empire
• Law (Justinians Code)
• Church (spoke Greek not Latin and though
  Christian it was referred to as Eastern Orthodox
  Christianity)
• After Justinians death, the Eastern Empire begin
  to decline and is eventually taken over by the
  Ottoman Turks.
