39Summary of MHC
- MHC-I consist of an alpha chain and beta-2
microglobulin and present endogenous peptides to
T lymphocytes, which are processed by the
cytosolic pathway in APC. - MHC-II have alpha and beta chains and present to
T cells exogenous peptides processed by the
endocytic pathway. - Non-classical MHC are involved in antigen
processing, presentation and tolerance induction. - Minor H antigens are genetic variants of peptides
presented by MHC to T cells and cause graft
rejection and graft versus host reaction. - HLA has an association with autoimmune disease
due to its capacity of altering antigen
presentation and clearance, lympocyte activation
and tolerance induction.
