    mentor of many Greek heroes.

  • Monsters with the heads of women and the bodies
    of birds. They dwelt on the island of Anthemoessa
    and lured sailers to their death with their
    irresistible song.

    Odysseus who had himself bound to the ship's
    mast, in frustration the Sirens leapt into the
    sea and drowned.

  • THE ERINYES were Underworld Goddesses of
    vengeance and retribution (especially for the
    crimes of children against their parents).
  • Those that the Erinyes sought to punish they
    pursued relentlessly, driving them to madness and
    despair for their crimes, until, through ritual
    purification, they were cleansed of their sins.

    fierce-looking, snaky-haired women armed with
    vicious serpents and whips and each equipped with
    a wide pair of wings.

    body of a beautiful nymphe, the serpentine-tail
    of a sea-monster and sprung from her waist a ring

    sea-bed and whose inhalations formed a deadly
    whirlpool.

    gates of Hades. It had lion's feet, a mane of
    serpents and the tail of a viper.

  • This was a monstrous fire-breathing female
    creature of Lycia, composed of the parts of
    multiple animals upon the body of a lioness with
    a tail that ended in a snake's head, the head of
    a goat arose on her back at the center of her
    spine. The Chimera was one of the offspring of
    Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters
    as Cerebus and the Lernaean Hydra.
