• 2,240 Quotas allocated in 21 species
• 1,500 appeals dealt with by Minister
• Of which 1,300 limited or SMMEs
• Transformation and Stability
• Partol Vessel Tender completed
• Harbour refurbishment commenced

• Prosecutions and compliance beefed up
• R25m spent on 23 poverty relief projects
• Agreements with Japan and Taiwan fully phased out
• Instituted 4x4 ban
• Acted on illegal cottages
• Put MLRF under GAAP

A vision for 2003/4

• Through stability, institutionalise the system to
  allocate rights and proceed to grow the fishing
  industry through the development of new
  commercial fisheries and the roll out of
  subsistence fishing rights along the length of
  our entire coast

• Involve all law enforcement agencies
• Set examples through high profile cases
• Act against over-fishing and un-reported fishing
• Promulgate new regulations to help policing
  insitute marine court, etc.
• Seek agreement with Australia for joint operations

Management

• Consolidate operational gains and lessons
• Start 2 new commercial fisheries
• Negotiate new Abalone allocations system
• Create 1st SA Fishing Resource Manual
