Title: Say, Mean, Matter

1
Say, Mean, Matter
  • When asked to interpret a graph, you should ask
    yourself 3 very important questions.
  • What does the graph SAY?
  • What does the graph MEAN?
  • Why does the data in the graph MATTER?

2
SAY
  • This is a description of the data in the graph.
You are not considering WHY anything happened.
You are only describing trends that you see in
the data. Make sure to use numbers (the actual
    data) in your description.
  • Heart Rate What is your average resting heart
rate? How does that compare to group members.
How did your heart rate change in the other 4
conditions? How about your group members?

3
MEAN
  • This is your opinion of what the data in the
graph is telling you. What conclusions can you
make about the data. WHY do you think that the
data changed or did not change.
  • Heart Rate Why do we get a resting heart rate?
  • Why do you think your heart rate changed from one
activity to the next? Why do you think each group
    member had different rates?

4
MATTER
  • This is where you put the results/data in the
context of what you are learning about. What
does the data mean in relation to what you
already know. Does the data lead you to a new
question you can test with an experiment?
  • Heart Rate What does this data tell you about
the way your cardiovascular system works? How
does the cardiovascular system differ from one
person to another? Does the cardiovascular
system interact with any other systems in these
    experiments?
