VOCABULARY
  • Transcript - Record of students grades, courses,
    grade point average, and ranking in class
  • Unit of Credit - Based on a minimum of 140 clock
    hours of instruction
  • Elective - Additional courses that are not
    required to meet the total minimum to earn a
    diploma
  • SOL Test - End-of-Course tests which are required
    by Virginia Department of Education

VOCABULARY contd
  • Verified Credit (V) - 140 hours of clock
    instruction, successful completion of course
    requirements and achievement of a passing score
    on the SOL test
  • Advanced Placement Course - A course that is
    externally moderated and exceeds the expectation
    of grade level objectives for a specific subject
    these courses will receive weighted credit
  • Weighted Credit - Refers to the point value
    assigned to an Advanced Placement course

  • Battlefield HS offers French, Spanish, Latin,
    German
  • The high school suggests a student have at least
    a B or better in 8th grade Language Arts before
    beginning Foreign Language

    interest in the subject, and career goals
  • College Credit - May be available depending on
    student performance on Advance Placement final
    exams Credit is awarded by the university, not
    the high school

  • Poor attendance
  • ? High schools report that 9th grade performance
    is the primary predictor of high school success.
    Attendance and NHI are the biggest stumbling
    block to on-time high school graduation.
