Pro-Slavery Argument
  • Southerners recognized the inconsistency with the
institution of slavery and the Constitution, but
they dismissed this inconsistency by stating that
    slavery was a NECESSARY EVIL.
  • Many Southerners felt that slavery would merely
    fade away.
  • Slaves were better off than wage-slave of the
North. They were provided with food, clothing,
    and shelter.
  • Slaves were not capable of existing on their own.
They were like little children. They were not
smart enough to survive without the white mans
    help.
  • Slavery was a way of RACIAL CONTROL.
  • If slaves were let go, they would rise up against
their former masters. Example Nat Turners
