In the beginning
  • Since we were one of the States chosen for the
first round of surveys, there was anticipation on
the part of Administration and staff.unsure of
    what to expect!!!

3
What did we find out???
  • Team monitor was in place with the team as they
    surveyed.
  • The team was extremely professional in their
approach. The surveyors explained about the
    potential deficiencies taught not preached.
  • Explained the issues encountered as they went,
and reminded us daily that we could fix.

4
What did it teach us???
  • In my 38 years in healthcare, this was the best
    process I have seen.
  • Made us much more ready for CMS survey afterward.
  • We came from a place where there were mediocre
surveys in the past, partly due to our inability
to learn from the process. This new process
allowed us to learn as we went and correct.
  • I hope that the survey process continues as it
did when the monitor was in place for ours.

5
If you want to look hard, look here..
  • Remember that CMS surveys require a systemic
approach to the development of processes.
  • The Life Safety is still the most stringent.
Keep tabs on your current regulations cause
thats what they are looking at.

6
As it was in the end.
  • We felt the process was extremely professional
  • We learned from the surveyors who took the time
    to teach
  • We had the ability to fix our problems before
    they became continued deficient practice
  • And we are all better for it!
  • Questions for me???
