What are Credits and Why are They Important
  • You must receive 3 credits of out-of-class
activities if you are registered in PSY-105
  • If you do not receive all 3 credits, you will not
receive a grade. An Incomplete will be assigned
    instead.

3
How to Receive Credits
  1. Participate in experiments
  2. Read and summarize articles from a Psychology
    Journal
  3. Any combination of the above two

4
Participating in Experiments
  • Signup sheets are on the bulletin board outside
    of SB 108
  • Write down the log book number, time and place of
the experiment, and the contact number
  • You MUST show up OR give 24 hour notice if you
    will not make it
  • Keep your credit slip verifying your
    participation
  • If an experimenter does not show up, go to the
psychology office and ask the secretaries for a
    form to complete

5
Missing an Experiment
  • If you fail to give 24 hour notice and do not
attend an experiment, or are late for the
experiment, you will be penalized 1 credit
  • If you miss two experiments, you will receive 2
penalty credits (for a total of 5 credits) AND
you will no longer be allowed to participate in
any experiments (you will have to summarize
journal articles for your required credits)
  • After you have missed two experiments, you will
no longer receive credit for any experiments that
    you may sign up for

6
Summarizing Journal Articles
  • 1-2 double-spaced typed pages with the title of
the article, author names, and journal title
  • Discuss
  • What the author is trying to accomplish in the
    work you read about
  • What conclusions the author reached
  • What types of research methods were used (e.g.,
    experiment, survey, etc.)
  • Any problems or weaknesses in the research that
you notice or that were discussed in the article

7
Why Should You be Required to Participate in
Experiments?
  • As part of your general education of psychology,
it is important that you be exposed to research
via participating in experiments (or through
    reading journal articles)
  • Increases the prestige of the University
