Functions Parts of the Heart

• Pacemaker cells in the right atrium send a
  signal to make heart muscles contract. Regulates
  heartbeat.
• Right atrium Receives blood from body blood
  low in oxygen and high in carbon dioxide

• Right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs
• Left atrium blood from lungs enters here rich
  in oxygen
• Left ventricle Pumps oxygen rich blood to rest
  of the body
• Aorta Carries blood from the left ventricle to
  the body

• Septum Thick, muscular wall separates left side
  from right Prevents oxygen rich oxygen poor
  blood from mixing.
• Pulmonary artery Carries de-oxygenated blood
  from the right ventricle to the lungs.
• Pulmonary Vein Returns oxygenated
• blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the
  heart.

• Superior Vena Cava Receives blood from the
  head, arms chest empties into the right
  atrium of the heart
• Inferior Vena Cava Receives blood from lower
  limbs and abdominal organs and empties into the
  right atrium of the heart
