Whats humour

Why is humour important

• Socially facilitating
• students of teachers with a sense of humour have
  better outcomes
• Maintains and reflects hierarchies and in- and
  outgroup positions
• An important coping strategy, especially for
  anxiety and mood symptoms

Types of humour

• Affiliative humor (I laugh and joke a lot with
  my friends)
• Self-enhancing humour/release (e.g., If I am
  feeling depressed, I can usually cheer myself up
  with humor)
• Aggressive/dominant (e.g., If someone makes a
  mistake, I will often tease them about it)
• Self-defeating (e.g., I let people laugh at me
  or make fun at my expense more than I should)

  unhelpful humour in treatment situations during
