What is a Hybrid Car?

• A hybrid car is a car that has better fuel
  efficiency.
• It uses less gas per mile than the average car.
• It also uses more than one power source.

Hybrid Car Structure

• A hybrid car has a gasoline engine, like most
  cars.
• Fuel tank- stores energy for the engine.
• Electric Motor- acts as a generator as well as a
  motor.
• Generator- very similar to an electric motor, but
  acts as an electrical power.
• Batteries- It puts energy into the car, and takes
  energy from the car. It acts as a storage device.

Oil Dependency

• Increasing the efficiency of vehicles can have a
  profound role in reducing how the country depends
  on foreign countries for oil
• Using hybrid cars is a way to reduce oil
  dependency because of their oil efficiency.

How Hybrids Work

• Hybrids combine gasoline engines and electric
  motors.
• The electric motor gives additional power to the
  engine for accelerating.
• The engine automatically shuts off when the car
  comes to a stop, but restarts when the
  accelerator is pressed again.
