Niagara falls
  • There are differing theories as to the origin of
the name of the falls. According to Iroquoian
scholar Bruce Trigger, "Niagara" is derived from
the name given to a branch of the locally
residing native Neutral Confederacy, who are
described as being called the "Niagagarega"
people on several late 17th century French maps
    of the area.

Yosemite falls
  • Yosemite Falls is the highest measured waterfall
in North America. Located in Yosemite National
Park in the Sierra Nevada of California, it is a
major attraction in the park, especially in late
spring when the water flow is at its peak.

7
Malachite falls
  • The valley of the 1 contains a fair amount of
waterfalls. The river heads in a series of large
lakes Big Heart Lake, Angeline Lake, and Otter
Lake- which form spectacular waterfalls as they
plunge down to Delta Lake. On the valley walls
downstream of Delta Lake, are found even more
    waterfalls.

8
Shoshone falls
  • Shoshone Falls has existed at least since the end
of the last ice age, when the Bonneville Flood
carved much of the Snake River canyon and
surrounding valleys. It is a total barrier to the
upstream movement of fish. The falls were the
upper limit of sturgeon, and spawning runs of
salmon and steelhead could not pass the falls.
Yellowstone cutthroat trout lived above the falls
in the same ecological niche as Rainbow Trout
below it. Due to this marked difference, the
World Wide Fund for Nature used Shoshone Falls as
the boundary between the Upper Snake and the
    Columbia Unglaciated freshwater ecoregions.

Multnomah falls
  • Multnomah Falls is a waterfall on the Oregon side
of the Columbia River Gorge, located east of
Troutdale, between Corbett and , along the
Historic Columbia River Highway. The falls drops
in two major steps, split into an upper falls of
    542 feet (165 m) and a lower falls of 69 feet (21
    m), with a gradual 9 foot (3 m) drop in elevation
between the two, so the total height of the
waterfall is conventionally given as 620 feet
(189 m). Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall
in the State of Oregon. It is credited by a sign
at the site of the falls as the third tallest
year-round waterfall in the United States.
