Title: IMMUNE SYSTEM II SPECIFIC RESPONSE

1
IMMUNE SYSTEM IISPECIFIC RESPONSE
  • PP. 961-966

2
RECOGNIZING PATHOGENS
  • wbc have receptors to the antigens (pieces of a
pathogen) that cause an immune response

3
(No Transcript)
4
INITIAL RESPONSE
  • macrophage engulfs pathogen and puts antigens on
    its surface
  • Helper T-cell binds to antigens
  • Macrophage releases a chemical (INK-1) which
causes the Helper T-cell to release INK-2

5
Initial response
INK-2
INK-2
Humoral B-Cell production
Cell-mediated T-Cell production

7
TYPES OF T-CELLS
  • Cytotoxic initiates cell death in infected cells
  • Suppressor helps to stop T-cell production

8
Initial response
INK-2
INK-2
Humoral B-Cell production
Cell-mediated T-Cell production

10
HUMORAL
  • B-cells change to plasma cells
  • plasma cells produce and secrete antibodies that
    attack and clump viruses
  • Clumped viruses cannot infect new cells
  • Macrophages digest the clump

11
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY IMMUNE RESPONSE
  • primary 1st time body encounters pathogens
  • secondary 2nd time body encounters pathogen with
memory cells (leftover B-cells and T-cells)
