The "Occupy Wall Street" protests are scheduled
to go on Friday as the grassroots movement
continues to grow, spread to other cities and
grab the attention of the president. Friday marks
the 21st day of the protests, a series of
grassroots demonstrations against income
inequality and corporate greed.

  • The PHILLIES play tonight at 837 in the final
    and deciding game of the NLDS playoffs.
  • The FLYERS won their opening game by defeating
    the Boston Bruins 2-1.
  • A recent study showed that despite the added risk
    of becoming bird food, male crickets give their
    mates priority in crawling into safe burrows when
    predators come hunting for them, researchers
    report. The finding, a first among insects, has
    intrigued biologists looking into the evolution
    of cooperation between the sexes in creatures
    large and small.
  • The Afghanistan War is officially America's
    longest war (10 years). The United States invaded
    Afghanistan to crush an al-Qaeda base of
    operations whose leader, Osama bin Laden, oversaw
    the 9/11 terrorist attacks and to make sure
    Afghanistan would not be a haven for Muslim
    terrorists. Joining the United States were forces
    from 48 nations. During the war, the dead have
    included 2,748 coalition servicemembers 1,796
    of them Americans. The effort has cost U.S.
    taxpayers about 450 billion.
  • Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah
    Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman will share the 2011
    Nobel Peace Prize for their work to promote
    women's rights, the Nobel committee announced on
    today.
