What is science?

• an organized way of using evidence to learn
  about the natural world
• based on observations information from senses

What is data?

• Information gathered from observations
• Two types
• Quantitative involves numbers
• Qualitative descriptions

What is an inference?

• A logical explanation based on prior knowledge
• Can be used to help make a hypothesis
• Should not take the place of good observations
• Example If you really like cherry Kool-Aid you
  might then infer that you would also like another
  brand of cherry drink.

What is a hypothesis?

• A hypothesis is a possible explanation for a set
  of observations.
• an educated guess NOT a random guess
• should be based on experimental data and research
