Respiration, Photosynthesis and How They Connect.

Respiration.

• Respiration happens when the mitochondria inside
  the cells need energy. They absorb sugars and
  oxygen and convert them to heat, energy, water,
  and carbon dioxide.

Photosynthesis.

• Photosynthesis happens when a plant absorbs
  sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide. The plants
  chloroplasts then, with the aid of sunlight,
  convert the water and carbon dioxide into energy
  for the plant, sugars, and oxygen.  It happens in
  order to give energy to the plant.

How they connect.

• As you very well know from our informative video
  and the slides that came before this.
  Photosynthesis gives off oxygen and sugars. 
  Respiration gives off energy, heat, water, and
  carbon dioxide. These two processes support each
  and make the world go round. 
• Without plants we would, 
• A. have way too much carbon 
• dioxide in the atmosphere and
•  B. we wouldn't be alive because,
•  no plants, no oxygen.

Fermentation.

• Fermentation is a way for cells to get energy
  without using oxygen. The process can happen in
  human muscles and alcoholic beverages. It can
  also happen in yeast. When it happens in the
  human muscles it is called lactic acid
  fermentation, it happens when the cells can't get
  oxygen fast enough, like when your running.
  However this process may seem foolproof it really
  isn't, you can not keep running forever because
  if too much lactic acid builds up it literally
  shuts down your muscles. Therefore you collapse.
