Title: The Body of Christ

1
The Body of Christ The Church
  • Based on Alive-O 6 Term 2, Lesson 3
  • Refer to Teachers Book pp. 179-192
  • What am I trying to do?
  • To explore the image of the Church as the Body of
    Christ.
  • Why?
  • To develop the childrens understanding of the
    Church and its membership.

2
  • After Jesus left, He sent the Holy Spirit to
    his friends.
  • They wanted to teach as many people as
possible about Jesus and they tried to live as he
    wanted them to.

3
  • One man, a powerful officer named Saul, was
very much against these Christians because their
followers were growing in number every day. He
tried to arrest these followers of Jesus Christ
    and put them in prison.

4
  • One day Saul was travelling on the road to a
city, called Damascus, where he thought he would
    find and arrest many Christians.

5
  • As he came near the city a bright light from
heaven suddenly flashed around him. Saul fell to
    the ground.

6
He heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why
are you against me?
7
  • Saul said,
  • Who are you, Lord?
  • The voice answered,
  • I am the one whom you are trying to hurt. Get
up now and go into the city. Someone there will
tell you what you must do.

8
  • The men travelling with Saul stood there but
    they said nothing.
  • They heard the voice, but they saw no one.
  • Saul got up from the ground. He opened his
eyes but he could not see. So the men took his
hand and led him to Damascus.

Damascus
9
  • For three days, Saul could not see and
he did not eat or drink.
  • There was a follower of Jesus in Damascus
called Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision,
Ananias. Ananias answered, Here I am,
    Lord.

10
God spoke to Ananias
Get up and go to the street called Straight
Street. Find the house of Judas. Ask for a man
called Saul from the city of Tarsus. He is there
now, praying. Saul has seen a vision. In the
vision, a man called Ananias comes to him and
lays his hands on him. Then he sees again.
11
  • But Ananias answered ,
  • Lord, many people have told me about this man
and the terrible things he did to your people in
Jerusalem. Now he has come here to Damascus.
  • But the Lord said to Ananias ,
  • Go, I have chosen Saul for important work.

12
  • So Ananias went to the house of Judas. He laid
his hands on Saul and said,
  • Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus sent me. He sent
me that you may see again and be filled with the
    Holy Spirit.

Ananias
Saul
13
  • Immediately Saul was able to see again.
After eating some food, his strength returned.
  • Saul became known as Paul and from then on he did
important work, teaching people about the Lord
    Jesus.

14
  • The Lord Jesus told Ananias that he had chosen
    Saul to do important work.
  • Do you think the Lord Jesus has important work
for you to do today/ tomorrow/ in the future?
  • Being a Christian brought a change to Pauls
life What change do you think being a Christian
    should make to your life?
