The Elements of Forbearance
  • The word forbearance has several parts to its
meaning and all of them need to be put into
    practice by Christians
  • Displaying patient endurance when we have been
    wronged
  • Abstaining from the enforcement of a right that
    may have been violated
  • Practicing self-control by way of not retaliating
against the one who has wronged us

6
The Expressions of Forbearance
  • In order for forbearance to be practiced, we must
    embrace the proper attitudes.
  • The greatest and most important of the attitudes
that must be expressed in forbearance is that of
    love! (Ephesians 41,2)
  • Other attitudes that must be expressed in
forbearance are that of tender mercies, kindness,
    humility, meekness, longsuffering, and
    forgiveness. (Colossians 312,13)

7
An Example of Forbearance
  • A great Bible example of the expression of
forbearance took place when David was on the run
from King Saul. It was during this time that he
was wronged by a man named Nabal.
  • It is a very moving story of forbearance but only
because of a woman named Abigail. (I Samuel
    252-35)

8
An Example of Forbearance
  • This heartwarming story can teach us some
    valuable lessons about forbearance
  • Practicing forbearance is not always easy.
  • Sometimes we need help from others to be
    forbearing.
  • When we choose to be forbearing, it brings
    blessings to everyone.
  • Forbearance strengthens the church retaliation
    will destroy it.

9
The Encouragement to Be Forbearing
  • Because practicing forbearance is not always
easy, we need some encouragement to get the job
    done.
  • What is it that can provide us with the
encour-agement we need in order to be forbearing
    toward others?
  • The answer is simple The best encouragement to
practicing forbearance is to examine the
forbearance that God has shown us! (Romans
    321-25)
