Commentary (slide 1)
  • GAASP includes a large fraction of PA faculty
  • The group has a broad range of research interests
and successes, most of which will not be
mentioned due to time constraints examples of
    breadth are
  • Professor Landolts meticulous work on standard
stars that is used for critical calibration of
    astronomical observations by the worldwide
    (professional amateur) community over 2800
    citations, to date!
  • Hearne Professor Pullins work on quantum-loop
gravity that aims to unify/expand our
mathematical and physical understanding of the
    (traditionally disconnected) fields of quantum
    fields and gravity.
  • Professor B. Schaefers careful analysis of the
star catalog that has been preserved on the
marble statue known as the Farnese Atlas 2005
media coverage included NY Times and NPR.
