History
Sir William Ramsey
Eduard Franklard
  • In the year 1868, there was a solar eclipse in
India which made a French Astronomer named Pierre
Jules Janssen, who was curious to find out about
the Chromospheres around the sun and that was the
first time that anyone did it. Soon he discovered
and studied about the striped yellow line. After
that, he succeeded on proving that the yellow
stripe was a new element. Two English Astronomer
named Sir Joseph Norman Lockyer and Eduard
Franklard agreed with Janssens results that the
element was not earthly. So they named the new
element Helium after the Greek word Helios
    meaning the sun.
  • When the year 1895 came, Helium wasnt really
that productive until this man named Sir William
Ramsey who continued on the Helium experiment,
and founded the uses for it that made it popular
until today. So he then became the discoverer of
    Helium.

Helium Facts
  • Helium is an element that is the second lightest
element but doesnt form any compound. Helium is
    odorless, colorless, tasteless, non-toxic and
insipid. With the periodic symbol of He and the
atomic number of 2, it is a gas that is lighter
than air and isnt flammable. At about 4 Kelvin
(-269 Celsius), Helium becomes liquid, and when
Helium becomes liquid, it has many uses for it,
and even when Helium is in gas form, it can also
be used for many things. Helium has the lowest of
the melting point for -272 Celsius, and boiling
point of -268.9 Celsius. It has a density of
0.17810-3 g.cm at 20 Celsius. It has an atomic
mass of 4.00260 g.mol-1 and it has a valence of
    0. It also adds up to 23of all elemental matter
    measured by mass.

Uses of Helium
  • Gas Form
  • -Blimps/Airships
  • -Balloons
  • -Makes a high pitch sound momentarily
  • -Keeps things from exploding
  • -Sports Indication
  • Liquid Form
  • -Lasers
  • -light bulbs
  • -Medical Applications
  • -Nuclear Reactors
  • -Powerful Magnets

Effects on the Environment
  • Helium has no hazardous effect with the
environment because it is a harmless gas and it
can mostly effect with health. However, even
though if helium did effect the environment, it
wouldnt be as effective because there wont even
be enough helium for it is a very light molecule
that would run out as it goes to outer space.
  • When Helium has no effect on the environment it
can effect the voice. Helium is actually founded
as a component of a natural gas, like from the
United States for it is a radioactive decay of
minerals underground, so it wouldnt be a harm
    with the environment.

Interesting Facts
  • -Weighs 4 times as much as a Nitrogen
  • -Weighs twice as much as Hydrogen
  • -Makes a high pitch voice momentarily
  • -Founded in the sun from the lines of spectrum
  • -Commonly used in everyday life
  • -Theory of running out of helium
  • -harmless
