Title: The Amazing Animal cell!!

1
The Amazing Animal cell!!
Hey, I thought cells were just for convicted
cattle rustlers and horse thieves!
2
Why are Animal Cells so Amazing?
CONVERT FOOD INTO ENERGY
ADAPT TO OUTSIDE STIMULI
3
Cells can determine
  • How productive cattle will be.
  • How meat tastes!
  • Why animals get sick.

4
CELLS CAN SPECIALIZE!!
Nerve cell
5
Amazing characteristics of cells!
  • They are the smallest unit of a living system.
  • They all hold the blueprints of how an animal is
    put together.
  • c. They are vital to all life functions.
  • d. They can reproduce!!
  • e. They can change the physical form of an
    animal. Good traits and bad.

6
There are basically two cell types
  • Eukaryotic cells
  • (membrane bound)
  • Prokaryotic cells
  • (before nucleus)

7
A Prokaryote Cell
  • Single-celled organisms
  • Lacks internal structures
  • Example Bacteria

8
A Eukaryote Cell
  • Has internal membrane- bound structures called
organelles. The largest organelle is the Nucleus,
    which contains the cells DNA.
  • May be made of one or many cells.
  • Makes up most of all living cells.

How did scientists discover cells?
  • Using Microscopes!!
  • Instrument developed by 16th century Anton van
    Leeuwenhoek.

19
CELL Theory states
  • All organisms are composed of one or more cells.
  • The cell is the basic unit of organization of all
    organisms.
  • All cells come from pre-existing cells.
