Title: Boxford Primary School
1Boxford Primary School The Story So Far ..
2In the beginning ....
- In 1839 the first part of our school was built.
- It was built by William Howe.
- As a National School it was for all the children
from Boxford.
3Ten years later the school was too small.
A new school for the infants was built further up
the road.
Children came to the school on our site when they
were older and stayed until they went to work
between 13 and 15 years old.
4In 1896 a new classroom was built on. This is
now room 5.
5We looked for evidence of the schools history.
We had to look very closely at the building and
the old building plans.
6These are the old building plans of the school
This plan show us what the front of the school
looked like
This is where Mrs Daintys Classroom is now
This plan shows us where the windows and doors
were
7We looked in the activity area between rooms 5
and 6
and found evidence of the original doorway
- Can you see the arched pattern of the bricks and
the concrete lintel?
8This picture shows one of the original windows
This is the same window from outside. You can
see the original concrete moulding.
9From the inside
This is the original doorway
.and from the outside.
10This is the outside wall of the old school
building which is now in Miss Daveys classroom.
We cant see any evidence of the old wall because
the windows have been blocked up and the walls
have been plastered.
