• OBJECTIVE You will be able to
• -Identify different types of lip print patterns
• -Make clear, identifiable lip prints
• -(if there is time you will use lip prints to
  identify an unknown sample)

Lip Prints as Identification

• Like fingerprints, lip prints are unique,
  individual characteristics
• Recently proven
• Allowed as evidence in criminalistics
• May be found on surfaces (glass, coffee cup,
  cigarette butts)

Background

• Identifiable as early as 6 weeks intrauterine
• Patterns rarely change over a lifetime
• Resist changes from many afflictions, such as
  infections
• Does NOT change significantly post death-
  cadaveric lip prints are considered satisfactory
  for identification purposes

Your Task

• CAUTION REAPPLY LIPSTICK between
• each print. CLEAN lipstick before sharing
• you may use your own if you have any.
• On a clean sheet of white paper, make a single,
  clean lip print.
• DO NOT WRITE YOUR NAME ON THIS SHEET. HAND IN
• On the plain side of a clean piece of paper, be
  sure to write your name on paper.
• Make a lip print on the paper.
• Separate the lip print into appropriate sections
• Identify the ridge patterns found in each
  sectionLabel at least 3 per section.
• (NOTE You may find the same pattern in different
  sections, but NOT in the same section.)
