Features of Living Things

• Reproduce
• Grow
• Develop- change features or shape
• Need food-(Some are producers- make their food,
  some are consumers- eat other living things

All living things also

• Need Water
• Exchange gases (oxygen- O2 and carbon dioxide-
  CO2)
• Use energy- they release the energy from the
  food by a process called respiration burning up
  food with oxygen
• Are made of cells
• Respond to their environment

elements- basic chemicals

• Oxygen or O2
• Carbon or C
• Hydrogen or H2
• plus small amounts of nitrogen (N2), and other
  elements

• Dormant- alive but in a state of rest (ie trees
  in winter, seeds, bears hibernating)
• Organism- a living thing
