3 shot at Florida State University before gunman
killed by police

• Florida State University students huddled
  together in the aisles of a packed campus library
  early Thursday after a gunman opened fire,
  injuring three students. Campus officers shot the
  gunman to death after they asked him to drop his
  handgun, and he opened fire at them. "This is an
  isolated incident and one person acting alone,"
  Tallahassee police Chief Michael DeLeo said
  later. "There's no indication of any further
  threat to anybody. "Obviously everyone wants to
  know why," DeLeo added. "That's the hard answer
  we're going to continue to investigate.
  Officials would not say whether the gunman was a
  student. The shooting started shortly after
  midnight either inside or near the library at the
  school in Tallahassee. The library is open 24
  hours. About 300-400 students were inside,
  studying for final exams. The school sent out a
  text to students, warning them to take refuge and
  stay away from windows. "FSU alert dangerous
  situation main campus-Tallahassee," it read.
  "Seek shelter immediately, away from doors and
  windows. Students shoved tables and book
  shelves against doors to barricade themselves. A
  cell phone video posted online supposedly from
  inside the library -- showed students sitting in
  library aisles listening intently to a voice over
  the loudspeakers. "There has been a shooting in
  the library," the voice says. "Stay where you
  are. We will be coming to each floor and clearing
  and taking care of anybody."

• President Barack Obama's plan to take the
  immigration system in his own hands is a daring
  test of the limits of presidential power. The
  steps he will lay out tonight in a prime time
  address will fuel a debate over his use of
  executive authority to enact change without the
  agreement of an opposition Congress.
  Conservatives are howling that Obama's effort to
  shield millions of illegal immigrants from
  deportation oversteps his own authority and
  infringes the Constitution. His backers say he's
  simply exercising his power to select which areas
  of law to prioritize -- and addressing a major
  national issue that seems to elude Congress.
• Bangkok, Thailand-- Five university students who
  used the signature three-fingered salute from
  "The Hunger Games" in front of Thailand's Prime
  Minister were detained Wednesday and told they'll
  face a charge of breaking martial law, a lawyer
  said. The students were taken away after flashing
  the salute -- popularized by the film's central
  figure, Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer
  Lawrence) -- at a speech in northeastern Thailand
  by Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to civil
  servants.
