Justification for meiosis

• A merger of two genomes/companies
• Each would like to have an influence, but too
  many CEOs could be disastrous
• A selective merger must occur

• Similarly, in sexual reproduction, a merger of
  genetic material must occur.
• Know that you are the combination of two adults
  genetics but only half of each of their
  chromosomes were passed on.

Some terms

• Diploid full set/number of chromosomes (46 in
  humans)
• Monoploid half set/number of chromosomes (23 in
  humans)

• Each sex cell GAMETE in humans must be
  haploid so they produce a diploid offspring.

• Meiosis includes two rounds of divisions to
  divide the number of chromosomes by one half.
