Title: REFLECTION FOR FOUND POEM FOR THE STORY

1
REFLECTION FOR FOUND POEM FOR THE STORY SUNRISE
ON THE VELD
2
The Purpose of Reflection
  • To explain how our words and pictures help to
    develop the mood.
  • Clarifies why we choose the things we did to
include in both our poem and our collage.
  • Makes a connection with the picture and words as
    well to set the mood.

3
How do I write the Reflection?
  • First, you have make sure you establish the mood
of your poem/collage. That will be the title of
your reflection. (ex Sorrow, Joyful, etc)
  • Next, you must choose at least two statements
from the poem and two/three visuals from your
    collage to deconstruct.
  • Finally, you formulate a PEA type response in
order to explain how your choices helped to
    create a mood.

4
Examples of what you could talk about regarding
your collage
  • Maybe you chose to use a specific colour scheme
for your collage. In your reflection, you must
explain how those colours help to establish the
mood you are creating with your words.
  • You could have also chosen a particular picture
to include, thinking that it really demonstrated
your mood. You could discuss that visual, talking
about how visual elements of it helped to develop
the mood (body language, facial expression,
    colours, composition, etc).

5
Examples of what your could talk about regarding
the writing
  • For this section, you can choose a few specific
lines, and develop a PEA response as to why it
helped to establish the mood using literary
    devices.
  • Some examples of literary devices that can help
    establish mood include
  • Character development, diction, imagery,
    conflict, metaphors, similes, etc.

6
So how many paragraphs should my reflection be?
  • The reflection will require some time to develop.
It is just as important (if not slightly more)
than the actual product. Because English is so
subjective, and there are so many choices that
can be made, an important element is being able
to defend your choices and explain your opinion
    and ideas.
  • Overall, your reflection should be a minimum of 4
    PEA paragraphs
  • 2 examples from your collage
  • 2 examples from your created found poem

Lets do one paragraph example together
  • One of the ways I demonstrated the mood of fear
is by using a picture of a scared child. This
picture was in black and white, was quite large,
and I decided to put it in the middle of the
paper. It was a close-up of a childs face
screaming. This proves that I have created a
fearful mood because The expression of the child
shows the audience that something is frightening
him/her, therefore creating a fearful mood. Also,
the bigger image and black and white colour makes
the picture stand out and remind us of old black
and white horror movies that tend to be quite
    scary.

  • Another way in which fear was demonstrated was
through how the boy was feeling after the buck
died. In the poem, the character drew in his
breath and pity and terror seized him (46).
Through the use of auditory imagery of the loss
of breath and a gasp makes the reader imagine
being in a new location where you are scared and
something shocking happens. The diction also
helps to develop the fear through the use of the
word terror. The reader may associate the word
with scary things in their own past, therefore
    creating a feeling of fear.
