Research and Development versus Marketing and
Public Relations
RD - aims at objectively verifiable, replicable
products that can stand up to scrutiny by other
independent observers and customers, Marketing
- tries to please all parties by essentially
telling them what they want to hear and appealing
to their basic emotions Usually, these two
functions are carried out by different people,
and there often is a firewall between the two
groups, who tend to disrespect each others
efforts. Both are needed, though, for any
initiative to survive.
12
Research and Development versus Marketing and
Public Relations
Generally the RD group will feel uncomfortable
by the way all their nuances and caveats are
removed while messages are simplified by the PR
group. The PR group may feel that the RD
group stands in the way of its own success, keeps
shooting itself in the foot and is wasting money
and resources.
