Basic Science Terms

• Observation using the five senses to gather
  information, which can be proven (facts)

• Inference an opinion based on facts from
  observations past experiences

• Science 1) knowledge gained by observation of
  the natural world, 2) the process by which we try
  to understand the natural world

• Physical Science the study of ME (Matter
  Energy)
• Matter must have mass take up
  space
• Energy the ability to do work

• Chemistry the study of matter how it
  interacts

• Physics the study of energy how it affects
  matter

• Bias a point of view which is personal or
  based on a belief that is NOT supported by facts
  (Bad)

• Control Group the group which does NOT have
  any factor changed is used as a comparison

• Independent Variable factor that is purposely
  changed

• Dependent Variable the change that results
  from the independent variable

• Analyze to closely examine, interpret, or
  evaluate data

• Conclusion a data-based decision to accept or
  reject a hypothesis

• Prediction a statement about what will happen
  in the future
