Analyze Figure 4.19 on page 71. What affect does
elevation have on temperature?
An increase in elevation means a decrease in
temperature.

because of higher elevation .

toward.
Leeward - side of mountain opposite from windward.

Places on leeward side less rain.
Rain shadow - region on leeward side of mountain
that receives little precipitation because most
rain has fallen on the windward side.
