R is for REBIRTH

• The Renaissance was the rebirth of classical
  ideas in art, architecture, literature,
  education, and many other areas.

E is for EDUCATION

• Education changed back to old ideas and
  humanism, which is the study of man and his
  environment.

N is for NATURE

• Nature became of interest to many scholars in
  Italy. They abandoned old ideas that centered on
  the afterlife, instead of the present. Nature
  also inspired people to begin painting
  landscapes.

A is for ANATOMY

• Anatomy suddenly became a popular interest for
  scholars who marveled at the human body and
  artists who wanted to paint more realistically.

I is for IMPERIAL KNIGHTS

• Imperial knights rebelled against their lord,
  the Archbishop of Trier, in protest against their
  declining economic position.

S is for SCULPTURE

• Sculpture was revived, as artists such as
  Michelangelo sculpted very realistic
  masterpieces, such as David and The Pieta.

S is for STRUCTURES

• The very ornate Gothic style of architecture
  became very popular, especially in cathedrals.

A is for ANCIENT ART

• Ancient rules for art were combined with new
  ones, as artists began drawing with perspective
  and proportion.

N is for NOVELS

• Novels were becoming more readily available,
  after the inventing of the printing press.

C is for CITY-STATES

• City-States became almost like individual
  countries, with each controlled by a prominent
  family such as the Medici, and each specializing
  in a certain trade.

E is for ENLIGHTENMENT

• The Age of Enlightenment followed the
  Renaissance, and at that time there was a change
  in philosophy and outlook.
