Collaborative revision
  • There are many kinds of drafts not all of them
    are useful in every situation
  • Different drafts call for different kinds of
    feedback
  • As a writer, knowing what to ask for saves time
    and minimizes conflict
  • As an editor, knowing how to respond saves time
    and minimizes conflict

Types of drafts and their uses
  • Preliminary draft
  • Uses getting ideas on paper, especially if you
    have lots of time
  • Feedback do self-revision first, then develop
    questions to ask. Focus on big picture -
    whats confusing or unclear, what information is
    missing
  • Review draft
  • Uses obtaining feedback on issues of content or
    organization
  • Feedback focus on organization and format,
    persuasive adaptiveness, strategic opening and
    closing
  • Near-final draft
  • Uses polishing and wordsmithing
  • Feedback concentrate on sentence structure and
    proofreading
