Title: Belgrade report
1Belgrade report Transport
- Meeting with the Working GRoup on Environmental
Monitoring and Assessment - Geneva 28 November 2006
- Jan Karlsson
-
2Main message (1)
- Total transport work increases in all
pan-European regions.
3Figure 1 Average annual change in freight
transport demand in Europe over the '90s
4Main message (1)
- Total transport work increases in all
pan-European regions. - In at least SEE countries we see the same
tendency as in the NWE countries a clear
dominance of road transport
5Figure 4 Modal shares in passenger transport in
Europe
6Main message (1)
- Total transport work increases in all
pan-European regions. - In EECCA countries and in SEE countries we see
the same tendency as was in the NWE countries a
clear dominance of road transport - Emissions of GHGs, poor air quality, noise
problems and other environmental problems linked
to transport increase.
7Main message (2)
- Technical solutions common in NWE are not yet
implemented in the EECCA countries and SEE
countries - More fuel efficient cars
- Abatement technologies on vehicles

9Main message (2)
- Technical solutions common in NWE are not yet
implemented in the EECCA countries and SEE
countries - More fuel efficient cars
- Abatement technologies on vehicles
- Total out phasing of leaded petrol
- Low sulphur fuels
10Main message (3)
- Transport safety has not improved in a similar
way as in NWE. -

per million inhabitants by region
12Some questions (1)
- Are the main issues as presented in the abstract
clear and relevant? - The modal share of road transport in EECCA is so
low that it appears data on this topic is not
comparable to data from SEE and NWE. Are there
any information to either validate or invalidate
this? - Data on vehicle fleet age?
-
13Some questions (2)
- Transport safety does not seem to improve in the
EECCA region. Are there initiatives to address
this? - Are there information regarding average energy
consumption/CO2 emission of passenger cars
produced in SEE or EECCA region? - Are there information on sulphur content in fuels
in EECCA and SEE countries? - Are there information on adoption of vehicle
emissions standards? -
