1. Christian philosophy helps us understand the
connection between Revealed truth and truths
accessible by reason alone.
June 11, 2019
  1. Philosophy (love of wisdom) is the science of
    wonder.
  2. Christian philosophy helps us see the universal
    dimension of our Faith.

2. God has created us and communicated to us His
goodness.
  • We have been created in Gods image and likeness,
as seen in our ability to reason, to will
    (choose) and to love.
  • i. I can begin to know truth and that which is
    outside of me.
  • ii. I can know God exists.

2. God has created us and communicated to us His
goodness.
  • b. God has created us for relationship, or
    communion, with Him.

2. God has created us and communicated to us His
goodness.
  • God has revealed Himself to us to enter into a
    relationship with us.
  • i. I can begin to know God with certain but
    limited knowledge.
  • ii. I can, with Gods help in Revelation, know
    His will.
  • iii. I can, with Gods help, or grace, have a
    real relationship with Him.

2. God has created us and communicated to us His

and Tradition, under the authority of the
    magisterium.

2. God has created us and communicated to us His
goodness.
  • e. God invites us to respond to Him by giving
    Him the obedience of faith.
  • i. I can respond to God with a real, living
    faith that is not blind.

2. God has created us and communicated to us His
goodness.
  • f. God as Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit),
is the central mystery of the Christian Faith.
  • g. God created the universe out of love, but
    humanity freely sinned against Him.

3. The power of sin has limited us from entering
into a relationship with God.
  • Original Sin is the condition of separation from
God that each person is in from the moment of
    their conception.
  • Sin has darkened our intellect, weakened our
will, and made sin look attractive
    (concupiscence).
  • We are subject to spiritual and physical death.

4. Only in Christ do we have the hope of
overcoming Original sin and all its effects.
  • a. God has slowly regathered His broken family
through the institution of covenants, culminating
    in Christ.
  • b. Through Christs passion, death,
Resurrection, He showed us a life of obedience,
    free from sin.
  • c. Through the Holy Spirit given to us in
Baptism, we are united in grace with the Trinity.
