A study of 768 children in urban and rural
communities found first-grade children are less
likely to be obese if their parents perceive
their neighborhoods to be safe.

A study of 1,180 predominantly racial and ethnic
minority residents of Boston low-income housing
projects found women who perceived their
neighborhoods as safe walked more than women who
perceived their neighborhoods as unsafe.
