Landslide This
  • By definition, a landslide is the general term
    for a slowly to very rapidly descending rock or
    debris.

LandslidesDangerous
  • Maps were created to warn about the dangerous
    areas. Here is one that shows the California
    counties that are prone to landsliding.

Devastating Destruction
  • Homes, businesses, and entire cities can be wiped
    out by landslides.
  • Southern California experienced landslides after
    the 1994 earthquakes.

Types of Slides
  • Not all landslides are rapid or noticeable.
  • Liquefaction is a type caused by earthquakes, in
    which soil turns to liquid.
  • Via de las Olas Palisades experienced slow
    sliding (see pic.)

Damage to Homes
  • Thousands of homes effected each year.
  • Sometimes homeowners are unaware of sliding.
  • Damage is extremely expensive.
  • Can be fatal.
